Who we are?

About your backyard raleigh

Welcome to Your Backyard Raleigh, a community-driven initiative led by self-proclaimed “Champion of Local,” Robert Courts. Robert has a rich 25-year history as Raleigh’s esteemed Mortgage “Professor.” A true pioneer and founding figure of Shop Local Raleigh, Robert is a staunch believer in “The Power of Local.”

Our Roots:

Robert’s journey spans over two decades, where he has not only contributed to the local business landscape but has been instrumental in shaping the Shop Local Raleigh movement. His dedication stems from his boundless love of Raleigh and a profound belief in the transformative impact of supporting local businesses and communities.

Why We Believe:

At Your Backyard Raleigh, we champion the Four Powers of Local as the key to addressing societal challenges. By simply “shopping local,” Raleigh citizens can have a profound and lasting impact on our community. It seems overly simplistic but the fact is these advantages of local businesses have a profound impact on our community. By shopping local, you obtain:

Better goods and services: you can expect exceptional goods and service when the business owner is active in the day-to-day operations of the business. This face-to-face communication is second to none.

Large economic impact: local businesses reinvest a significant portion of their earnings back into the community. This financial empowerment creates a cycle of prosperity, sustaining businesses and enhancing the economic health of the city.:

Unique and vibrant culture: Raleigh’s local businesses contribute to the city’s distinctive charm and appeal. From cozy cafes to family-run boutiques, each establishment weaves a unique story, creating an experience that sets Raleigh apart.

Strong non-profit community: Local businesses play a pivotal role in supporting Raleigh beyond commerce. Rooted in the neighborhoods they serve; these establishments actively participate in local non-profit initiatives.

Our Mission:

At Your Backyard Raleigh, our dedication extends beyond rhetoric—we are fervently committed to fostering a thriving ecosystem for local businesses and communities throughout Raleigh.
